Obamas rooting for Knicks, thanks to player development chief Craig Robinson

It’s hard to overstate how important player development is to the New York Knicks right now.

The club is in the early stages of a rebuild, looking for talented players to fit around Kristaps Porzingis while the star forward works his way back from a torn ACL.

In the best-case scenario,cheap nfl nike jersey the Knicks build a young core around Porzingis that’s strong enough to attract free agents in the summer of 2019 or 2020, when they should have significant cap space.

New York has the wherewithal to add this young talent: The Knicks own all of their first-round picks going forward and likely will have top-10 picks in the next two drafts.

The trick, of course, is adding the right players and then developing them once you have them on the roster.57

That’s where Craig Robinson comes in. Over the summer, Knicks president Steve Mills called Robinson, his old teammate at Princeton and, at that point, a Milwaukee Bucks executive, with a job offer.

“I think I have the perfect job for you” was Mills’ pitch. The timing wasn’t great for cheap nfl jerseys china nike Robinson because he was close to finalizing a home purchase in Milwaukee.

“Then he explains the job and I’m like, ‘Oh, that is the perfect job for me,’cheap nfl jerseys china nike” Robinson, the brother of former first lady Michelle Obama and brother-in-law of President Barack Obama, recalled on Wednesday.

After speaking with his family, Robinson accepted a position as vice president of player development and G League operations for the Knicks.

In a half-hour chat with a group of reporters Wednesday, Robinson, a former head coach at Oregon State and Brown University, discussed his vision for the Knicks’ player development program. He also revealed that the former president and first lady are now Knicks fans.

Julius Randle is changing the narrative of his future

Julius Randle has heard more times than he cares to count how Magic Johnson and the Los Angeles Lakers will put on a full-court press this summer for two superstar free agents at his expense.

The Lakers’ big man is fully aware that his future is tied solidly to the team’s master plan to woo the likes of LeBron James and Paul George this summer and that he will more than likely have to go to help clear up to $70 million in cap space.reebok nfl jerseys

“Oh, man, it came to a certain point where I was just numb to it,” Randle said.

But Randle is not sitting idly by and accepting whatever his fate may be. Instead, he’s doing all he can to show the Lakers, and the rest of the league, what he can do.

With James in Staples Center for perhaps the last time as a Cleveland Cavalier on Sunday, Randle turned in a superstar performance, posting a career-high 36 points, 14 rebounds, seven assists and two blocks before a nationally televised audience.nfl jersey wholesale He made his final nine shots and scored 19 points in the last 18 minutes to turn a close game into a Lakers rout.

Randle is trying to alter the narrative about him having to go in order to land James and George by playing the best basketball of his career, and in the process, he’s doing his best to make the Lakers think twice about what to do with him.

“I haven’t talked to a lot of other coaches about him, but what he’s doing right now, he has to be on everyone’s radar,” Lakers coach Luke Walton said. “He’s playing unbelievable basketball. He’s a matchup nightmare for teams; he’s versatile. This is just me guessing, but I would imagine most teams are pretty impressed with what he’s doing.”

Ranking the top 30 NBA draft prospects by stats and scouting

With conference tournaments in full swing and the NCAA tournament a week away, it’s time to take a first look at my WARP projections for the college prospects who could be in this year’s NBA draft.

As always,wholesale nfl jersey outlet my projections are built on three factors:

The player’s projected performance as a rookie, based on translated NCAA stats over the past three seasons, adjusted for strength of schedule and a factor regressing outlier performance to the mean;

The player’s age;
Where the player ranks in the latest top 100 rankings from my Insider colleagues Jonathan Givony and Mike Schmitz.

(For more on how the projections work and a look back at past projections, see here.)

Even without factoring in international prospects, most notably Luka Doncic and his historic production in EuroLeague, this looks like a strong crop at the top. There’s an unusual amount of agreement between my stats-only projections (factoring in translated production and age) and this year’s top 100. Still, there are some surprising names in my top 30 and the order isn’t quite the same as our top 100, starting at the very top.
